Alex Van Halen celebrates his 65th birthday today (May 8th). He helped write the second single off the second Van Halen album, cleverly titled Van Halen II. The song was “Beautiful Girls”. It didn’t do so well as a single but it got a ton of airplay and everyone loved it, making it one of their most popular songs. David Lee Roth knows why. He says that the subject matter of his lyrics will never go out of fashion:
“I know that the technical and the mechanical changes, but humans do not. I’m tellin’ ya. From ashes to ashes and right back to Buckwheat, Spanky and Darwin. [Laughs] You can get your brand new Pentium processor with the 300 gigabyte soft floppy disc drive, plug in your seven color rayode daylight laser printout scanner machine and the first thing everybody puts up there is their favorite pornography. I deal with the basics.”
