That’s Jimi!

That’s Jimi!

We lost the bass player of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Noel Redding 15 years ago today (May 11th, 2003). He had a very distinctive style but became a bit moody, sometimes walked out of recording sessions and after recording some parts for “All Along the Watchtower” he isn’t on the final cut.  Neither is Dave Mason who also recorded parts…Jimi Hendrix actually played bass on it. Noel Redding explained that he was pretty ambivalent when Jimi announced that they would be recording a new Bob Dylan song called “All Along the Watchtower.” Here’s what Redding had to say about it in 1990.

“I’d never heard the Dylan at all. I thought it was rather strange, personally. I’m certain I put down a few tracks and I reckon maybe later on I think Dave Mason might have put a guitar on it and maybe the bass guitar. I know I put something down, anyway, and then I disappeared or something. I used to walk out of sessions. And then suddenly it came out as a single.”
