Quick Hit

Two people who played on “Jungle Love” have birthdays today (October 11th). Drummer Gary Mallaber turns 73 and guitarist and co-writer Greg Douglass turns 70 today. The song on the Steve Miller Band album Book of Dreams. Steve Miller had recorded the Book of Dreams album and was almost done mixing it when he heard about “Jungle Love” from his bassist. Miller picks up the story.

“I was working on the very last tune when Lonnie Turner walked in and said, ‘Oh, by the way, I’ve got this song.’ And he played it for me and it was a tune he had worked on with Greg Douglass. And I said, ‘Well, why don’t you get Greg and come on over and let’s record it this afternoon then, ‘cause this is really a great song. So he came over — Gary was there, Gary Mallaber, our drummer – and we cut the track just like that and I sang it. And I think the song was done in 45 minutes. We mixed it and finished the album and out it went.”
