He Knew It

45 years ago today (October 15th), Alice Cooper’s first Greatest Hits album was certified gold for half a million sales. One of his biggest songs was “No More Mr. Nice Guy” He knew it was going to be big once he had the title.

“It just had its own rhythm and had its own feel, and I knew as soon as I heard the title I thought, ‘This is going to be good. It’s going to be funny, it’s going to be pop, it’s going to be hard, it’s going to have a bite to it, it’s going to have some satire to it.’ Once the lyric is written and once that one line is written then it’s kind of simple. You start writing it and as soon as it starts sounding like something else you take it another direction until you shape it into something that doesn’t sounds like anything else. And you still can’t help it from sounding — if I listen to ‘No More Mr. Nice Guy’ I think it sounds kind of like early Who.”
