After Foo Fighters were announced yesterday morning (Wednesday) as one of the new Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Dave Grohl shared his reaction to what will be his second Rock Hall induction (Nirvana, of course, was his first)  Here are some of the highlights:

  • He was “surprised and, of course, very appreciative” when he heard the news.
  • He’s been working on his upcoming memoir, The Storyteller, and says he’s been spending so much time on his earlier bands, Scream and Nirvana, that he “kind of gloss[ed] over Foo Fighters.” Then he laughed.
  • He says he’s “mostly happy for Pat [Smear] and Nate [Mendel] and Chris [Shiflett] and Taylor [Hawkins] and Rami [Jaffee]” and doesn’t think “any of us ever imagined that this would happen.”
  • He’s been texting with the other members on a group chain and has also spoken to The Go-Go’s, who also found out they were in today.
  • He calls this year’s class “very important, and encouraging,” especially in the number of women chosen.
  • He expects a very different vibe at this years induction ceremony than when he went in with Nirvana, which he says was “obviously bittersweet.”
  • He expresses his belief that “if there’s one common thread that’s run through the last 25 years of being in this band, it’s that everything just falls in our laps. It really does…”
  • He predicts that his speech will be the shortest of anyone in the band’s, “since I have such a big mouth.” He says, “It’s time for those guys to speak.”

The induction ceremony will take place on October 30th in Cleveland.
