Carlos Santana collapsed onstage Tuesday night during his show at the Pine Knob Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan, 40 miles northwest from Detroit. His manager later said the collapse was due to heat exhaustion and dehydration.

The incident occurred nearly an hour into the guitar legend’s set with his namesake band. The show was halted and medics attended to Santana, with a curtain shielding the performer from the view of the audience.

Several minutes later, a crew member came on stage and announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, as you can see we have a severe medical emergency. Let’s share our prayers…We need it right now…Please send your light and love to this man. He deserves it. Give it up for this man.”

The good news is that Santana waved to the crowd as he was being wheeled offstage in a gurney. He was taken McLaren Clarkston hospital for observation and is doing well, Santana’s manager Michael Vrionis said in a statement.

Wednesday’s show with Earth, Wind & Fire at The Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania will be postponed to a later date.

Early Wednesday morning Santana posted on Facebook, “Thank you for your precious prayers. Cindy [Blackman] and I we are good, just taking it easy. [I] forgot to eat and drink water so I dehydrated and passed out.”
