The Who brought their Hits Back tour to a close with two shows in Las Vegas earlier this month, and Roger Daltrey tells us we haven’t heard the last of him and Pete Townshend. Here is Roger Daltrey on if The Who have any plans for next year.
“At the moment nothing, but there will be something. We don’t know what. It’s very difficult to make long term plans at the moment. No one knows knows quite how this winter’s gonna pan out.”
What is on the calendar are two acoustic shows next month.
The first has Roger and Pete performing at the 90th birthday concert for British artist Peter Blake, known for designing the cover of The Beatles‘ 1967 album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and The Who’s last album, 2019’s WHO. It will take place on December 2nd at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
The second event has them leading the Nordoff-Robbins music therapy charity’s annual Christmas carol service on December 13th at St Luke’s Church in London’s Chelsea neighborhood.
Daltrey says, “What Nordoff-Robbins does with music makes such a positive change to people’s lives – which is why we’re supporting them at this very special Christmas service. Music is our shared language and is incredibly powerful, and music therapy can reconnect people who may otherwise feel isolated or disconnected from the world – whether a young person with autism, a person living with dementia, or somebody rebuilding their lives after an accident.”
Townshend adds, “For a while I must admit I didn’t really understand what Roger and I might be expected to do at a Carol concert. But I now understand that our presence and support is more valuable than whether I can still manage a descant on ‘Angels We Have Heard on High’…
“I had done research on the early work of music therapy when writing Tommy back in 1967, and continued to research and learn about how it works, when it works, and accepting that it does in fact sometimes – often – work miracles.
“Very glad to help out.”
And looking ahead to next year, Daltrey will headline, for the third time, the Rock Legends Cruise, which departs Fort Lauderdale, Florida on February 13th.
Joining him onboard are Deep Purple, Randy Bachman, Lou Gramm, George Thorogood, The Marshall Tucker Band, Ten Years After and many others.
