Wolf Van Halen erupted on social media today after a tweet accused him of taking advantage of his “father’s last name and band name.”

He responded angrily to the post, writing “Van Halen is literally my [effing] last name you grape.” He followed it with a question to no one in particular, “How are some of you this stupid[?],” and the three-word statement “We are doomed.”

He came back to explain, “You guys understand Van Halen is literally a name. Like way before it was a band. Right? That good ol American rock and roll you love so much was written by a Dutch immigrant named Edward Lodewik Van Halen, not some dude changing his name to sound cool and “rock n roll” and [crap]?”

A couple of hours later he was done, tweeting, “Ok this tweet is getting so many likes that twitter is doing that thing when random people who have no context for anything just jump in to say even dumber [stuff] so I’m muting this now. Thanks for the fun, folks.”

He also asked, “What should my new name be?” and offered four choices: Wolfgang Led Zeppelin, Wolfgang AC/DC, Wolfgang The Who and Wolfgang Paul McCartney. He added that  he “wanted to write Wolfgang Paul McCartney and Wings, but there was a character limit.”

On the bright side, Wolf’s band Mammoth WVH has a new single coming out at 10 a.m. ET tomorrow (Wednesday) and trending on Twitter the day before isn’t the worst way to call attention to it.
