Billy Joel is once again letting his fans know that he’s alive and well.
He was asked about his health issues saying he’s okay, and that his brain disorder “sounds a lot worse than it actually is.”
Billy Joel provides an update on his health:
“My balance isn’t that good. Lost a little bit of my hearing, but that may have to do with my age, too, and the rock and roll life and the loud volume probably didn’t help. But I’m fine. I want people to not have to worry about me. I’m okay.”
Diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, a brain condition that can cause balance, vision and hearing problems, he took a call from a woman in Pennsylvania with a similar diagnosis who said her doctor advised her to have a shunt surgically implanted into her skull, which is what Joel did.
He told her, “I understand your trepidation about that particular procedure” before explaining what it entails.
“When I was diagnosed with NPH they recommended a shunt be implanted. I asked them, ‘What does that entail?’ [And they said] ‘Well, we drill a hole through your skull, then we shove a drain into your brain to drain off excess fluid.’ I said, ‘Nah, I think I’ll pass on that.’”
