R.I.P Peter Tork

We lost former Monkee Peter Tork yesterday to cancer at age 77.  Here is Peter Tork recalling his pal Stephen Stills recommending that he should audition for The Monkees.

“Most everybody now knows the story, the fact that it was Steve who recommended that I try out for The Monkees. And I said, ‘What about you?’ He said, ‘They think my hair and teeth wouldn’t photograph  any well… very well… and did I know anybody who looks like me who had one-tenth my talent and I thought of you, Peter.’ So Stephen had to settle for Buffalo Springfield and CSNY — and he’s never forgiven me.”

Here Peter Tork discussed when The Monkees met The Beatles in London in February 1967:

“An arrangement was made for us to be at the Speakeasy, a bar and hangout place. The Beatles were tucked behind these glass doors and they came wandering in. George Harrison and John Lennon, they were singing ‘Micky Dolenz’ to the ‘Hare Krishna’ song. ‘Micky Dolenz, Micky Dolenz, Dolenz, Dolenz, Micky. Micky.’ George playing his little ukulele and having a good old time. Paul came with his then-girlfriend Jane Asher, who was so cute. And we had some pretty good conversations.”
