Danny Federici would have been 69 years old today (January 23rd). Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band’s keyboardist got to play his butt off on one song: “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)” It was on the album: The Wild, the Innocent, the E Street Shuffle, not a single but one of Springsteen’s most popular songs especially in concert. The late E Street Band organist Danny Federici didn’t get to shine all that often with the band. But in a 1990s interview, he talked about one song that really showcased his abilities.
”’Rosalita’’s one of my favorites. There’s tons of organ in it. I could really play my butt off. And I guess it’s one of the few songs that feature the organ. If you look back, there’s not as many that — I guess if it was me I’d probably turn the organ up louder. So that was like one of my songs to play and get a spotlight on.”
