He swooped in to save the day

Stevie Nicks released her second solo album, The Wild Heart, on this day in 1983 (June 10) The song stand out making in to number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 was “Stand Back”.  It was inspired by and then completed by Prince. Stevie Nicks wrote “Stand Back” after hearing Prince’s “Little Red Corvette” on the radio. But that wasn’t the end of Prince’s influence on the song, as producer Jimmy Iovine explains.

“Well, ‘Stand Back’ is an unusual one, because that’s Prince all over it. He didn’t take any credit for it, but he was. He came in the studio one night and we said, ‘Gee, we can use some help with this song.’ He came in, put his instruments on — he was like Zorro, he kind of came in and, y’know, played all these instruments, played them all great and left. And we went and finished the record.”
