Pooda Crik

Deluxe vinyl reissues of two classic Creedence Clearwater Revival albums go on sale November 15th.

Willy and the Poor Boys and Green River — both marking their 50th anniversaries this year — were released just three months apart.

  • Green River was the Bay Area band’s third studio album, and their first to reach number-one. It featured a pair of Top 5 singles (“Bad Moon Rising” and “Green River”) as well as “Lodi,” “Wrote a Song for Everyone” and a cover of the R&B standard “Night Time Is the Right Time,”
  • Willy and the Poor Boys has the Vietnam War protest song “Fortunate Son,” “Down on the Corner,” “It Came Out of the Sky” and “Midnight Special.”

Both albums landed on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Here is John Fogerty on Green River, the Creedence Clearwater Revival album and the place.

“I’ve long said that was my favorite album from the Creedence era and probably my favorite song of that era, too. Green River was, in fact, a place called Pooda Creek, up in Northern California by Winters. It was just this really lazy country crick. It’s the place where I learned how to swim.”
