Drugs better than drink?

Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue is 61 today (December 11) The song “Kickstart My Heart” was written about a heroin overdose, Nikki Sixx says it was easier for him to write songs on drugs than alcohol. The second single off Dr. Feelgood, following its Top 10 title track, “Kickstart” peaked at number-27 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was nominated for a Best Hard Rock Performance Grammy and its video for an MTV Video Music Award.

Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx wrote “Kickstart My Heart” about a drug overdose. He was declared dead for two minutes only to be revived by shots of adrenaline in his heart. He tells us that, for him, it was easier writing songs while on drugs than alcohol. He explains:

“When you’re drunk it’s harder to write than if you’re numb. When you’re in an addictive place for pills or cocaine or heroin, it’s a different kind of writing. You can stream-of-consciousness write. It’s killing the doubt in you and that’s why people do drugs. It makes them feel free. So I was able to write very freely.”
