Former Jefferson Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen had a comment on the song: “White Rabbit”. Even though the hit for Jefferson Airplane is 52 years old and made it to # 8 on the Billboard Hot 100; he prefers the original! It’s by Grace Slick’s former group, The Great Society. Jorma actually prefers their live version.
“When The Great Society used to do it, it was a vehicle for one of the band members, I forget who it was, to take a soprano sax freakout solo. When we did the song, it became more of an arrangement piece. I love the way The Great Society did it and to tell you the truth, I never felt that the way we did it was as dynamic. But, y’know, years after the fact when I go back listening to it – and I don’t listen my own stuff very often – it’s a pretty neat arrangement.”
