Sting is Whiny

Those hoping that The Police will decide to get back together and tour one more time may not want to read what Sting has to say about their last one in a new interview with British Readers Digest.

Although the 2007 and 2008 trek was a tremendous box office success, Sting now maintains that if he’d known how he’d feel at the end of it, he “wouldn’t have done it in the first place.” He says that’s “not a slight” on his bandmates or “the way things panned out,” but that he was disappointed by the emotion he left it with.

He felt then and still does that the tour was “an exercise in nostalgia,” and thinks “it’s OK to be honest about your feelings and that was the way it went” for him. In the end, he’s just more comfortable being a solo artist, and “producing exactly the brand and style of music that feels right for you.”

He acknowledges that while music is a “collaborative process,” being in a band — “where you have to consider other people almost more than you do yourself” — is the toughest kind of collaboration for him.
