49 years after they broke up, Creedence Clearwater Revival finally have a number-one song.

Written by John Fogerty, 1970’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” has topped Billboard’s Rock Digital Song Sales Chart.

As for why now, Fogerty’s spokeswoman says, “It really comes down to a variety of reasons. “First and foremost, these iconic songs always have and continue to resonate with generations across the board.

“Live touring has commenced with John’s first shows in over 16 months taking place this past holiday weekend.

“In addition, he also recently embraced the TikTok platform, uploading his own videos while also joining in on a ‘Centerfield’ duet with a popular TikToker. The video currently has over 200,000 views on both channels, while his TikTok videos have garnered over 4.1 million views collectively.”

Joining “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart are CCR’s “Bad Moon Rising” and “Fortunate Son” at number-eight and -nine, respectively.

“Have You Ever Seen the Rain” has also topped the Canadian Hot Digital Songs chart with “Bad Moon Rising” at 13.

Creedence Clearwater Revival had nine Top 10 hits on Billboard‘s Hot 100, with five of them getting as high as number-two — “Proud Mary,” “Green River,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Travelin’ Band” and “Who’ll Stop the Rain.”

Here is CCR bassist Stu Cook on “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.”

“It was part of that period of Pendulum where things were starting to get edgy, particularly between Tom and John — Tom struggling for more room within the band and ultimately deciding to leave anyhow. I played piano on that song, and by that I mean just doubling some bass parts, intro figures, outro figures, turnaround figures, stuff like that. Sort of a revisit, another rain song. I like the other rain song better.”
