The clothes Tom Petty wore and the 1964 Rickenbacker guitar he played at the Super Bowl 42 Halftime Show in 2008 is part of a new exhibit at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The Biggest Show on Turf: 55 Years of Halftime Shows exhibit includes some of the best Halftime stories told through artifacts, including Bono’s flag-lined jacket from U2’s post-9/11 performance and Prince’s turquoise suit worn during his iconic Purple Rain set.

When Petty was asked about playing the Halftime Show, he joked, “A lot of it is just trying to remember the next chord. We play for the audience and hopefully that’ll take care of everything else.”

His 12-minute set with The Heartbreakers at Super Bowl 42 on February 3rd, 2008 in Glendale, Arizona featured “American Girl,” “I Won’t Back Down,” “Free Fallin’” and “Runnin’ Down a Dream.”

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Here is Tom Petty on what it means to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“I am truly humbled to be added to this list of people in this Hall that have meant so much to my life. It is almost unthinkable to join such a sophisticated list of artists.”
