It’s homecoming week for Alice Cooper as his hometown of Detroit welcomes him with a few not so ordinary honors, which is quite fitting for one of music’s most extraordinary performers.

On Thursday afternoon at 2, a street in the suburb of Westland, Michigan will be renamed Alice Cooper Court.

Alice will be there for the unveiling, which due to the efforts of WCSX Detroit morning host Big Jim O’Brien, who already lobbied for and had streets in the area renamed in honor of Bob Seger and Glenn Frey.

Fittingly for Cooper, the street is adjacent to the former Eloise Psychiatric Hospital off Michigan Avenue. A duplicate of the street sign is on its way to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland where it will become part of the permanent exhibit spotlighting Cooper, who was inducted in 2011.

While Cooper is there, he’ll cut the ribbon on the new Eloise Asylum haunted attraction, which opens on October 1st.

Then at 4 on Thursday, Cooper will sign copies of his latest album, Detroit Stories, at Rock City Music in Livonia. It’s his first Detroit-area in-store appearance in 22 years.

Cooper will then cap the week with a show on Saturday night in nearby Clarkston, Michigan at the legendary Pine Knob amphitheater — now known as DTE Energy Music Theatre.

Cooper is in Utica, New York tonight (Wednesday) and Chicago on Friday. Ace Frehley is opening the tour.
