An effort to rename a Pasadena, California park after Eddie Van Halen has fallen short.
The Pasadena 4 Van Halen Community Organization released a statement saying, “We are so upset! Sadly, things did not go our way at the Recreation and Parks Commission meeting. The Commission decided to recommend [author] Octavia E. Butler as the park’s name to the City Council, despite Eddie Van Halen winning the votes in a landslide.”
Eddie received 3,408 of the 3,669 votes. Among the other 22 names considered were chef Julia Childs and author Harriett Doer, who were both born in Pasadena. The city council will make the final call when the commission submits its recommendation.
Eddie Van Halen, who was born in Amsterdam and emigrated to Pasadena in 1962, died October 6th, 2020 from cancer. He was 65.
