Back in March, Brian May was joined in the studio by 10cc’s Graham Gouldman for what May said was “a little surprise.”

Well the surprise is a new song,“Floating in Heaven,” written by Gouldman to celebrate NASA releasing the images today taken by the James Webb Space Telescope, which was launched last December and became operational this week.

The scope is intended to succeed Hubble as NASA’s flagship mission in astrophysics.

May, who is an astrophysicist, says, “There is nothing more exciting in a world of exploration than going to a place about which you know nothing. The sky’s the limit for what we could find out.”

The song is accompanied by a video, which includes footage from NASA interspersed with digital animation of the telescope, Gouldman singing and May playing guitar.
