Stephen Stills says he doesn’t see touring in his future, but he’s still playing.

He tells Rolling Stone he gets together and jams with Neil Young every Wednesday. “We’re proving the adage that Rust Never Sleeps. We hang out in the studio. We play old songs. We play other people’s songs. We just play together, the two of us. We go back and rediscover old Buffalo Springfield songs and then just play them on the natch. We then listen to the records and go, ‘Oh God, we missed that by a mile.’ But we do it every week. Shakey and I have always gotten along great.”

And, speaking of the Buffalo Springfield, Stills says he and Young recently got together with that band’s other surviving member, Richie Furay, for an interview for his documentary. “It was hilarious to remember all that stuff.”

Stills occasionally plays shows with Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay and his band, which includes R.E.M.’s Mike Mills, drummer Kenny Aronoff and guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

He also has plans for a documentary and a memoir, which he’s tabled for the time being — and he continues to write songs. “At this age, it’s done one day at a time and one song at a time. I’m trying to write new songs since there’s a lot to write about these days. They fall out when they do. When I get four or five, I’ll think about recording them. It’s not work. It’s waiting.”

Stills and Young will perform at Stephen’s Light Up the Blues benefit on April 22nd at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Proceeds from the sixth edition of the concert will raise money for Autism Speaks.

Stephen and his wife Kristen’s son Henry is autistic.
