Joe Elliott says singing with himself on Def Leppard‘s upcoming Drastic Symphonies was a bit weird.

Elliott tells the BBC that he had to re-sing some songs because “the original vocals were out of place once you put an orchestra on it.” And on “‘Too Late for Love,” Elliott says, “I did a duet with myself from 40 years ago. It’s the most bizarre thing I’ve ever done. But it was great fun. The timing and the phrasing came to me instantly — it’s like it never left my DNA — but it was one of the strangest things I’ve ever done. It was like singing with a ghost that’s still alive, if that makes any sense.”

Drastic Symphonies, on which Def Leppard rework songs from their catalog with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, will be out on May 19th.
