In early March, during a Twitter Q&A, Nikki Sixx was asked if Motley Crue had any plans to release a new album and he said, “Got a few ideas we’re kicking around.”
Then last week he tweeted that they’re “writing” and will enter “the big studio next week and record a few off the floor and see where it goes,” adding that they “don’t have a definitive plan at the moment,” and are “just letting the songs guide us.”
Well, both Tommy Lee and new guitarist John 5 have posted photos from the studio, with Lee saying, “Hit that [bleeping] record button Mr. Rock!!! Go!” and John adding, “Let’s do this.”
The Mr. Rock Lee refers to is Bob Rock, who produced 1989’s Dr. Feelgood and their self-titled 1994 album. He also has a co-producer credit on 2019’s The Dirt Soundtrack.
These are the band’s first recordings without original guitarist Mick Mars, who left the band last fall.
Motley Crue’s last studio album, their ninth, was 2008’s Saints of Los Angeles.
