Change is Exciting

Deep Purple have pretty much kept true to the old formula — album, tour, album, tour.

A mainstay on the road, they’ve been been pretty consistent when it comes to recording with six albums since 2003 and nine in the last 30 years.

Bassist Roger Glover tells Brazil’s A Rádio Rock that with guitarist Simon McBride replacing Steve Morse last year it’s become “a whole experience. It’s a different band.”

And, as a result, he adds that they “have to embrace change. You can’t do the same thing over and over again, and we’ve had several changes, of course, over the years. And this one is particularly exciting. ‘Cause we’ve been working on a new album [that] should be out by next year. And we can’t stop writing. That’s what we do.”

Purple’s last album was a covers collection, 2021’s Turning to Crime.

The band is on tour in South America.
