John 5 says that he still speaks with Mick Mars, the guy he replaced in Motley Crue, but is afraid to reach out to his old boss, Rob Zombie.

John — whose real name is John Lowery — told Eddie Trunk that “Me and Mick, we talk all the time. We exchange Christmas gifts and things like that. When I was announced as the guitar player, he was one of the very first texts I got. He said, ‘You’re going to kill it.’ It’s good, because it’s not like some stranger coming in. We have a great respect for each other.”

The guitarist admitted telling Rob Zombie, who he played with for 17 years, that he was leaving was very difficult. “I talked to Rob, and he understood. Rob is a smart, rational person. I mean, he wasn’t psyched, but he understood. And I think that was amazing of him. And he was just, like, ‘Go get ’em.’ He was fine about it.” John 5 added that Zombie bringing back the guitarist he replaced, Mike Riggs, “is a great addition.”

What John 5 hasn’t done since joining the Crue is touch base with Zombie. He explained, “I miss talking with him and texting with him. I’m more worried about him not texting me back or not replying. I think that would really break my heart. That’s the thing. I think I’d be really bummed out about that.”
