John Mellencamp doesn’t do a lot of talking about his private life, but he has opened up about his 10-year relationship with actress Meg Ryan in a new interview with Esquire.
“I love Meg Ryan… [but] she doesn’t love me so much. She’s a great girl. I’m just a [crap] boyfriend.
“We were so [bleeping]. We didn’t know how to do anything. I’ve never checked out of a hotel by myself. Her and I went to a grocery store, and they wanted our credit card, and we looked at each other and said, ‘Here it is,’ and they said, ‘No, you’ve got to put it in this thing,’ and we went, ‘Then what happens?’
“We laughed at how stupid we are, so hard we cried. I think she’s learned how to do everything, and I’ve learned how to do nothing.”
Meg and Mellencamp were engaged in November 2018 and broke up in October 2019.
Mellencamp will be in New York tomorrow (Thursday) talk to fellow Hoosier David Letterman at 6 p.m. at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center as part of the Tribeca Festival‘s Storytellers Series.
