Former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman has the band to thank for his new book.
Bill Wyman’s Chelsea: From Medieval Village to Cultural Capital is “a comprehensive and informative guide to a London borough steeped in culture and history, as seen through the personal and affectionate lens of a long-standing resident, who himself plays a part in the history of the area.”
He’s lived in the London neighborhood since 1982, but he says it was the “money from the settlement with leaving the band” in 1993 that enabled him to buy the home he now lives in, which was built in 1714.
Wyman is now working on another book, this one about the village of Gedding in Suffolk where he’s had a manor house, Gedding Hall, for over 50 years.
The 86-year old credits his decision to retire from the band with his ability to write numerous books, including:
- Stone Alone: The Story of a Rock ‘n Roll Band (1990)
- Bill Wyman Shoots Chagall (1998)
- Rolling with the Stones (2002)
- Bill Wyman’s Blues Odyssey: A Journey to Music’s Heart & Soul (2001)
- Bill Wyman’s Rolling Stones Story (2002)
- Bill Wyman’s Treasure Islands: Britain’s History Uncovered (2005)
- The Stones: A History in Cartoons (2006)
- Stones From the Inside: Rare and Unseen Images (2020)
