Pat Benatar says she and her bandleader husband Neil Giraldo are revising their musical, Invincible, which is a modern take on Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet using their music to tell the story.
It played to mixed reviews in Beverly Hills, California in 2022, so Pat tells Billboard they’re “tearing it to shreds and starting over. We have the liberty to do that because we haven’t gone to even off-Broadway or anything like that. So we’re tearing it apart, doing a similar show but with a lot of different elements to it.”
And Giraldo adds, “It will take it in a little different direction, maybe go back to the very beginning. I think we got too far in the weeds with it and it started getting a little messy.”
Among the songs that were featured in the 2022 show were “Love Is a Battlefield,” “Heartbreaker,” “We Belong” and the title tack.
Pat says that while there is no time frame for when it will be done, it could reopen in her husband’s hometown of Cleveland.
Until then, she is on tour with a show in Washington, D.C. this Tuesday.
