No Ringo Room

Beatles fans now have another destination in their hometown of Liverpool.

Original drummer Pete Best and his brother Roag have turned their childhood home into a five-apartment Airbnb. The rooms are named after John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe, and Best, with a “sprinkling” of a Beatles theme, including photos of the band members, posters and guitars on the wall.

There is no room named after Ringo Starr, but Roag says it has nothing to do with his older brother being replaced by him.

“Everything we do is about being authentic and The Beatles that performed and partied here were John, Paul, George, Pete and Stuart. Ringo was never a member when he was here.”

The basement of the house was home to the Casbah Coffee Club, which their mom Mona Best opened in 1959. John Lennon’s Quarryman played there 13 times, and The Beatles over 40.

Pete says, “The Beatles played here, The Beatles partied here and The Beatles slept here.”

Apparently someone else who “slept” there was the late Beatles roadie Neil Aspinall who is Roag’s father. He says, “I was born in the McCartney suite and presented to John, Paul and George, who were here that night, they’d played the Cavern. So some of the first people I ever saw in the world were the Beatles.”

Roag was born on July 21st, 1962. Less than a month later, August 16th, his brother was fired from the band.

Mona died in 1988, age 64, and Aspinall, 17 years her junior, in 2008 at 66.
