Neil Young has pulled out of playing England’s Glastonbury festival — even though he was never officially announced for the event.
On Tuesday Young posted on his Archive website that the festival was “one of my all time favorite outdoor gigs” but that “we were told that the BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way that we were not interested in. It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it way being.”
“We will not be playing Glastonbury on this tour because it is a corporate turn-off, and not for me like it used to be. Hope to see you at one of the other venues on the tour.”
It’s a strange complaint for Young to issue, since the BBC has been the media partner of Glastonbury for decades and Young’s performance at the festival in 2009 aired live on the network. Young and his new band the Chrome Hearts are slated to tour this year behind a new album.
The only officially announced act for Glastonbury so far is Rod Stewart.
