Geddy Lee told us last year that Rush will be using a keyboardist on their Fifty Something tour, and now they’ve finally revealed who it is.
Lee tells Planet Rock that Loren Gold has “played with The Who for the last 12 years or more and also Chicago and he’s a real veteran. So we’re excited to bring him on board.”
Lee adds that Gold is also a great singer so he’ll be adding backing vocals to the mix. But don’t fret, Rush fans — Geddy will still be playing keyboards on songs like “Subdivisions.”
In an E-mail to their fan club, Lee wrote, “Both Alex and I are loving the hours of rehearsal time we’re spending with Anika [Nilles] and now Loren, learning around 40 songs which will enable us to keep the shows evolving, playing some different songs on different nights.”
And Gold posted to his social media, “Truly honored (and slightly buzzing) to be part of the Rush family. Thank you, Geddy and Alex, for bringing me into the fold (I promise to behave…mostly). It’s gonna be one hell of a year! Now, back to work before I get into trouble.”
Rush will kick off their Fifty Something tour on June 7th in Inglewood, California.
