Neil Young‘s new album is in the can.

Recorded with the Chrome Hearts, he says they recorded it at producer Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La studio in Malibu, California, recording five tracks over two days because that’s all they had. After that, as Young writes on his website, “We were then out of songs. We needed more.”

He adds, “The next morning I had a song going through my head and I was playing it. I checked it out in the archives and found it was from 1963, unreleased. There were more. I found three others with it … also unreleased! Three 60-year old songs and five brand new ones!

“We finished mixing and assembling one month later on the next full moon … April 1st. It was fast! We now have a complete mastered record, ready to go. I cannot wait for you to hear it and I hope it gives you what it gives me.”

In 1963 Young was in The Squires, and the only Squires songs from 1963 that have been released are the instrumental tracks “Aurora” and “The Sultan.” So, it’s not known if these songs are instrumentals or even Squires songs.

No word on when the album will be released. It’s the followup to his 2025 album with the Chrome Hearts, Talkin to the Trees.
