Turn It Down

Brad Whitford celebrates his 69th birthday today (February 23rd) still remembers Steven Tyler asking him to turn down because he was playing too loud when they were rehearsing “Same Old Song and Dance”. It was on Get Your Wings released in 1974. It was the first single off the band’s second album, it didn’t chart — nor did the album’s second and third singles — but it became a rock radio staple. He says that even though it was a very long time ago, he still has memories of first learning to play “Same Old Song and Dance.”

“’I remember working on that in it must have been 1973 in the basement of a club in Framingham, Massachusetts on Route 9, old stomping ground, cranking this tune out and a few months later, recording it. I remember Steven telling me to turn down. [Laughs] I was playing too loud. This was rehearsal during the day. It’s a long time ago. It’s 1973. Wow!”
