This Saturday’s Record Store Day release of John Lennon‘s four-song EP, Power to the People — Live at the One To One Concert, New York City, 1972, is only the tip of the iceberg of his concert tracks to be released this year.
A nine-disc box set of performances is in the works, and, seeing as how the two One To One concerts is not enough to fill nine discs, there’s speculation that it will include his 1969 performance at Live Peace Toronto; the songs he performed while co-hosting The Mike Douglas Show for a week in 1972; plus performances from the National Peace Coalition Rally at Duffy Square in New York on April 22nd, 1972; The Dick Cavett Show on May 26th, 1972; the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon on September 4th, 1972; and his last public performance, November 28th, 1974 with Elton John at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Lennon’s estate usually releases these retrospectives around his birthday, October 9th, which would have been his 85th this year. And sadly, this December 8th marks the 45th anniversary of his killing at 40 years of age.
